Statement from Headteacher

The Senior Leadership Team notes today’s statement in Parliament from the Deputy First Minister regarding the impact of Covid-19 on pupil education. We will be working hard today and tomorrow to provide further guidance to families as part of the South Lanarkshire Council response to the details in today’s announcement. We are aware the statement contains elements which some Senior Phase students in particular will find challenging.

In the first instance, teaching staff have made schemes of work and other resources and activities available online for all year groups and we are preparing a series of guides for families to support this remote working and learning. We are mindful that some of our young people will require different levels of support with regard to accessing such material and will make arrangements accordingly. Please monitor the website and @officialhgs Twitter feed for updates as these will be our main platforms for communicating at a whole school level; teachers and departments will do so via the Google Classroom vehicle in the main.

Please be assured that we will outline whatever limited access to school may come from today’s statement as soon as we are able; in the meantime, students should be advised by their class teacher about their short term next steps in learning. I thank you in advance for your support in these challenging times.

Best regards,

Graeme Sives
