Dear P7 pupils,
At Hamilton Grammar we are very much aware you are all going through a challenging time as you try to adapt to the COVID-19 pandemic and the changes it has made to your school day. I hope that you, and your friends and family, are keeping safe and well.
We are keen to reassure you that managing the transition from Primary 7 to S1 remains a priority for everyone at Hamilton Grammar. As S1 Year Heads, we would like to update you on what we have already done and what we will be doing to support you at this time.
Our transition programme has been running over the last year. We ran tours led by our S6 pupils and a Parents Information Evening in October to introduce you to our school and building. A number of you had the chance to meet others from your new year group at the Learn to Learn day in March.
We had planned to welcome you to the school with a two day visit at the end of the month. Unfortunately this won’t be possible, but our School Transition Team has arranged an alternative programme of events to give you a taste of life at Hamilton Grammar. This includes:
Tuesday 12th May – French lesson
Monday 18th May – P7 Handbook information
Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th – your Virtual 2 day visit with lots of information on the subjects you will study
Monday 1st June – school quiz
There will be important information for parents posted on the website as well.
Additionally, we have been in touch with Primary School head teachers and Primary School teachers to gather information to allow us to prepare class lists for next year. This includes friendship groups and any siblings already at the school as well as learning about your strengths and abilities to allow us to place you in the best possible class for your future learning.
Please note that all transition plans are subject to change depending on National and Local Authority guidance. Our School Transition Team is meeting weekly to ensure this process goes as smoothly as possible and we will update our website and issue additional information when we have it.
Please also note that, for pupils entering our ASN specialist provision in August, there will be an alternative programme of events and information. Mr Mackay and the ASN team are in the process of arranging the programme and will shortly be in touch to confirm the details of this.
We are looking forward to being your year heads next year and working alongside the pupil support team, class teachers and Mr Sives and the rest of the Senior Management Team to welcome you to the school. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact at the following e mail address email@example.com.
