Young Enterprise Success

yesWe’d like to extend a huge congratulations to our Young Enterprise team Handmade Hamilton for their success at the Lanarkshire Young Enterprise finals on Thursday.

Miss Burrell and her team have been working tirelessly throughout the year selling their handmade pens & custom tote bags. At the finals on Thursday they walked away with the Marketing Award and for the first time ever brought the Company of the Year shield back to Hamilton Grammar.

Apprenticeship Showcase at South Lanarkshire College

To celebrate Scottish Apprenticeship Week (6th to 10th March) some of our S3 and S4 pupils attended South Lanarkshire College’s Apprenticeship Showcase. This was an opportunity for pupils to meet with training providers and try their hands at various different trades. This included pupils gaining experience of brick laying, carpentry, hair dressing, painting and decorating to name a few. Feedback from pupils was extremely positive and this event has encouraged pupils to pursue careers within these industries

Business Breakfast Success

At the end of February, Hamilton Grammar School hosted a Business Breakfast. This was an opportunity for the school to celebrate the links they already have with employers and create and nurture new ones. The event was also a chance for employers to come into the school and speak with young people and share their experiences of education and their personal journey to their chosen occupation. Feedback from the event was extremely positive, with employers committing to getting involved in various other activities such as mock interviews, providing work experience placements and an apprenticeship event. Pupils enjoyed sharing their experiences with employers and gained worthwhile advice on how to successfully achieve their career goals. A massive thanks to the 28 businesses that attended the event, including New Age Fitness, Colonel Mustard In The Courthouse, Elspeth Hamilton Perfumery (representing Hamilton BID), George Taylor & Co, BCF Technology, Aldi,  theSKYLAB and Slater, Hogg and Howison – to name a few.

Friday Study School

As part of a focussed approach to enhance the learning opportunities of our pupils, we will be launching a Friday Study School Programme to support our young people beyond their timetabled learning. All pupils in S4, 5 & 6 are invited to enrol in the programme and participate on Friday afternoons in subjects of their choosing.

A letter explaining the full process was issued to pupils and a copy is available here.

The sign up links for week 1 subjects are now live. Please note the subject focus may not be available yet, please see subject teachers if this is the case.
